The Balloon Glow at Coney Island is a spectacle of light and fireworks that’s fun for the entire family. Spend the day at Sunlite Water Adventures, and let the kids have fun with the inflatable obstacles. Then, hang out in the pool area until 9:30 PM for an immersive view of the fireworks. The fireworks are preceded by the launch of 30 hot air balloons that glow like giant lanterns in the night sky.
Don’t want to be in the park all day? Head over to Newport, Kentucky, for an Independence Day Cruise offered by BB’s Riverboats. The riverboat heads up the Ohio River to Coney Island and provides food and drink for guests along the way. It arrives in time for the balloons to launch and stays there for the fireworks display that finishes off the night.

The Cincinnati Reds organize a fireworks display every Friday during the regular season. Although the 4th doesn’t fall on a Friday in 2022, the team is still planning a spectacular show for that day. Pick up some tickets well in advance so you and your crew can go cheer on the Reds as they play the New York Mets. Then, enjoy the fireworks after the game.
Red, White and Boom! by the Cincinnati Pops
The Cincinnati Pops schedule a concert that delights the audience with upbeat orchestral and vocal performances. The music complements and punctuates the theme of the day, with familiar songs that foster a feeling of patriotism. Make sure to stick around for the fireworks display slated for the end of the concert.
The concert is held at Riverbend Music Center, and tickets are $15 to $55 for adults with reduced prices for children and active or retired members of the military. All seats are on the lawn, though we recommend you come with your bug repellent and a blanket for comfort.

King’s Island celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022 and plans to go all-out for the 4th. The amusement park is known for its eye-popping fireworks shows. Its fireworks are timed to go off toward the end of the park’s operating hours, so you’ll have the entire day to enjoy the rides and entertainment beforehand. Members of the military get free admission to the park on the 4th as a thank you for their service.
The Independence Day fireworks show starts at 10 PM, when the park normally closes. But on this day, the park will stay open until midnight after the fireworks end. Guests will be treated to the spectacle of over 1,500 shells launched into the air, far surpassing the size of the regular nightly fireworks shows.

Stricker’s Grove Independence Day Fireworks

Stricker’s Grove is a private amusement park in Hamilton open to the public every year on the 4th of July. Admission to the park is free, and grilling is allowed in certain areas. Come to enjoy the rides, have a picnic, and stay for the fireworks at the end of the day. That said, the park requires individuals purchase tickets or an armband for unlimited rides.
The main attraction of Stricker’s Grove is the carnival-style rides and wooden roller coaster built by the founder of the grove. A second roller coaster, the Teddy Bear, is a replica of the roller coaster located at Coney Island in Cincinnati. At first glance, you’d think the park has been there for the better part of the century, but it actually began operations in the early 90s. It also boasts arcade games, Skee-Ball, a shooting gallery, and an 18-hole miniature golf course.
