2022 Toyota Corolla Trims

The 2022 Corolla family offers nine different trims: L, LE, Hybrid LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, SE Apex Edition, XLE, XSE, and XSE Apex Edition. Here is a brief overview of the features that each trim level offers:

L

The Corolla L is the 2022 Corolla’s base model, and it packs a lot of functionality in a relatively simple package. The Corolla L’s exterior features LED headlights and accent lights, along with a black sports mesh grille. Additional exterior features include 15-inch steel wheels, intermittent wipers, and power side mirrors.

The inside of the L model is designed for practicality and comfort and offers seating for five. The infotainment system is controlled by a 7-inch touch screen and includes a six-speaker audio system, an optional Wi-Fi hotspot, hands-free connectivity, and compatibility with Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Apple CarPlay.

The Corolla L is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. Like other Toyotas, the Corolla L features the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite that offers many safety features that set it apart from its competitors. These features include dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, and road sign assist.

LE

The next step up from the L model is the Corolla LE. While similar to the base model, the LE includes a few features that set it apart from its sibling. The LE’s additional exterior features include larger 16-inch wheels, variable wipers, and color-keyed outside power mirrors.

The inside of the LE also adds to the L model’s features. Some additions include automatic climate control, premium fabric-trimmed seats, remote keyless entry, rear-seat USB chargers, and illuminated vanity mirrors for both the driver and the passenger. The LE also adds the option for a power tilt/slide moonroof and a smart key system with push-button start. Infotainment on the LE model is largely identical to the L model, with the addition of a larger 8-inch touch screen.

Performance-wise, the LE is very similar to the L trim. Its drivetrain is powered by the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and it includes the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 features. The LE is also available with two additional safety features, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.

Hybrid LE

The Hybrid LE is the only hybrid model in our lineup, and it’s largely the same as the LE model with a different drivetrain. The LE Hybrid pairs the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and features Eco and Power driving modes. This combo has an output of 121 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid version differs from the standard LE in a few key ways, including its 15-inch alloy wheels and available SofTex trimmed and heated seats.

SE

The Corolla SE is a further advance on the previous three trims and includes a number of features that make it a good value. On the outside, its unique features include a gray metallic front grille with LED accent lighting, a color-keyed rear spoiler, 18-inch machined alloy wheels, gray metallic sport side rocker panels, and chrome exhaust tips.

The interior of the SE includes steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, premium sport seats with sport fabric inserts, and the same infotainment capability as the LE with the optional addition of an upgraded JBL speaker system. The SE’s performance features are what separates it from the previous trims. All SEs feature a more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the SE is available with either the Dynamic-Shift CVT or six-speed intelligent manual transmission.

SE Nightshade Edition

The SE Nightshade Edition is a luxury take on the Corolla SE. Mechanically, it is identical to the SE, but It sports a unique exterior in all black, including blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels, a black mesh grille and bumper, and black exterior highlights and badges. This edition of the SE is only available with the Dynamic-Shift CVT.

SE Apex Edition

The SE Apex Edition adds both new aesthetic and performance features to the Corolla SE platform. Its upgraded exterior features include a sport mesh black front grille, a bronze-accented front spoiler, 18-inch black flow-formed wheels, blacked-out badging, and a black and bronze lower body kit. The Apex Edition’s additional performance features include a lowered sport-tuned suspension and a sport-tuned exhaust. The vehicle is available with either the CVT or the manual transmission and includes paddle shifters for the CVT option.

XLE

The XLE trim adds even more features to the SE model. Standard features include a power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel, a 7-inch color TFT multi-information display, SofTex trimmed heated seats, rear cross-traffic alert, and a blind-spot monitor. The XLE is available with the adaptive front lighting system, ambient interior lighting, Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, and a premium audio system with JBL speakers. The trim features the 1.8-liter engine and comes with an automatic transmission.

XSE

The XSE is the XLE’s luxury sibling and includes a range of unique features. These include 18-inch alloy wheels, gray metallic sport side rocker panels and rear spoiler, leather-trimmed steering wheel with paddle shifters, a power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, an upgraded audio system with an 8-inch touch screen, cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and available ambient lighting and adaptive front lighting system. The XSE features the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and the CVT.

XSE Apex Edition

The XSE Apex Edition takes the XSE platform and adds the same features included in the SE Apex Edition. These include SofTex trimmed heated seats, bronze and black accents, 18-inch black wheels, sport-tuned suspension and exhaust, black badging, and bronze interior stitching.
